KUCHING, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) has developed measures to help the government in fighting corruption.

Its chief operating officer Tricia Yeoh said IDEAS firstly proposed that MACC be upgraded into a constitutionally mandated Independent Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC) with security tenure for its 15 commissioners.

"We also propose that relevant parts of the MACC Act 2009 be amended to give more investigative powers to the relevant bodies; that several relevant Acts including the Official Secrets Act, Whistleblower Protection Act and Witness Protection Act be improved."

She said IDEAS also proposed that laws be introduced to enable freedom of information and asset declarations, and that the institutions of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor be strengthened by separating the two roles from each other.....
