BANGI: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has finalised its proposed amendments to EAIC Act 2009 (Act 700), among which is for it to regulate the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Com­mission (MACC).

EAIC chairman Datuk Yaacob Md Sam said the planned amendments were completed recently following a meeting with the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Public Service Department.

It is hoped that the amendments to Act 700 will be tabled during the coming parliamentary meeting.

“Hopefully, the final version will be presented to the Cabinet before being taken to Parliament,” Yaacob told the press after EAIC’s last dialogue session of the year with non-governmental organisations as well as media and civil society organisations.

EAIC was set up on April 1, 2011, through the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009 (Act 700) to receive complaints and investigate misconduct of officers or irregularities involving enforcement agencies.

Yaacob said under the new amendments, the commission would know the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings and what punishment was given.

He said the amendments also included a provision to regulate the MACC.

“Currently, a specific provision excludes MACC from the purview of Act 700, so we have proposed to do away with that section.

“But we leave it to the Government to decide whether the MACC should be placed under Act 700,” he added.
