MELAKA -- To strengthen the integrity of enforcement agencies under its purview, the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) is in the midst of improving their standard operating procedures (SOPs). EAIC chairman Datuk Yaakob Md Sam said the commission had implemented several measures, carried out studies, investigations and provided recommendations for improvements to SOPs of several law enforcement agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). "In April, the police issued a Lock-up Management SOP. Hopefully, with this SOP, incidents or deaths of prisoners while in lock-ups can be prevented. "The new SOPs should also be followed up with a refresher course for the lock-up supervisory and management staff to ensure more effective control," he said here Tuesday. He was speaking at the Joint EAIC Dialogue Session attended by 21 enforcement agencies from the southern zone. Yaakob said it was important to improve SOPs in providing the best enforcement and administrative services to the rakyat, and in convincing them with the services rendered. "Our actions and behavior are exposed to public scrutiny and observation, especially those who deal with us. "This situation requires us to be cautious in handling law enforcement activities," he noted.
