KUALA LUMPUR: Three men were charged at the magistrate’s court with obstructing a Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer from carrying out his duties.

Chan Hong Fai, 47, Lim Gat Chun, 30, and Tan Swee Boon pleaded not guilty to the charge.

They were accused of obstructing the officer from conducting an inspection at the Awan Besar R&R along the Kesas Highway here at 1pm on April 26.

If convicted, they could face a maximum of two years’ jail, or a fine of up to RM10,000, under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Jazilah Mojd Yushaa did not offer bail as the offence was non-bailable.

Pleading for bail, their defence counsel S. Prakash said the prosecution had not disclosed any evidence or reason to deny their bail.

Prakash then proposed a bail of RM2,000, adding that this would be sufficient to secure his clients’ appearance in court.

The court granted each accused a bail of RM3,000 in one surety. Magistrate Mohd Faizal Ismail set the next mention on June 15.

The three accused posted bail.
