MELAKA: Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan will be with his men working during Hari Raya to ensure the state’s record of zero break-ins during the festive season for the past two years continues.

Only a few policemen are on leave. Apart from livestock being snatched by cattle rustlers, no serious crimes have been reported in the state since the start of Ramadan, said DCP Abdul Jalil.

When word got round that the top cop himself was leading the team to ensure safety during Hari Raya, well-wishers wanted to show their appreciation by sending him Hari Raya delicacies.

He politely turned down a food gift from a hotel and requested for it to be presented to his men on the ground instead.

“Please pass the cake and kuih-muih (delicacies) to my men, I appreciate the thought, thank you,” he replied in an SMS message yesterday.

Equatorial Hotel’s marketing and communications manager Datuk Chris Murray had planned to distribute the delicacies to DCP Abdul Jalil and other top officers in the state as a show of gratitude.

Sjn Hamdan Ismail, 58, from the Banda Hilir police station said he was touched by the appreciation shown to the police force.
