IPOH: Disciplinary action has been taken against the traffic policeman who was seen receiving money in a video clip that went viral last week.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the policeman, who was based in Ipoh, has been placed on desk duties.

“Disciplinary action has already been taken against him while the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will also carry out its investigation,” he told reporters at the state Police Contingent Headquarters here yesterday.

“He is not allowed to carry out tasks outside until the investigation is completed,” he added.

“We are serious in this matter and will investigate it thoroughly as we will not compromise on integrity.”

Police, he said, were also looking for the person seen giving the money.

In the seven-second clip, a driver can be seen putting something – believed to be bank notes – into the policeman’s hand.

The man can also be heard saying: “Bolehlah, apa pula tak boleh? You cakap boleh, saya bolehlah (Can, why cannot? You say can, I can).”

On another matter, DCP Hasnan said 15 people from Perak were arrested for involvement in Islamic State (IS) over the past three years.

The latest arrest, he said, was about two weeks ago in Selama.

“A man in his 30s was nabbed in his house,” said DCP Hasnan.

“The suspect is a sympathiser of the IS and he was arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act,” he added.

Asked if the suspect donated money to the group, DCP Hasnan said: “Something like that.

“He supports the group.”

DCP Hasnan said with IS carrying out attacks in other countries, he had advised his men to be vigilant and ensure that its activities did not spread to the state.

It was also important, he said, for the police in Perak to be on top of any information regarding militant activities.

DCP Hasnan said he also instructed all the OCPDs in the state to ensure that their districts were not turned into spots for organised online gambling.
