Zahid We already have a police force we dont need others

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia does not need other bodies organisations to police the country, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Saturday.

"Security is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government. Indeed, we need the assistance of non-governmental organisations and residents' associations, but do not be rude and set up associations without (first) referring to the Home Ministry," he said, adding that the police should not be selective in enforcing the law.

Zahid said this in relation to the Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) in Penang.

The police, he said, respected the power vested in the state government, which was elected by the people, but action would be taken against them if they violated the law.

"We, PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police), are loyal to the Government of the day, as so long as they do not violate the law.

"But if the laws are breached, more so by members of parliament, chief ministers, assemblymen or the public, action will be taken," he said when opening the Bukit Bendera Umno divisional delegates meeting here.

On the arrest of the PPS members, Zahid said stern action would be taken against 11 who were found to have previous records.
