PETALING JAYA, April 9 — Police have fired a warning shot against those within the force caught abusing drugs, stressing that action will be taken against them, after 14 personnel tested positive for drugs during a camp in Kuala Kangsar.

Bukit Aman assistant chief of Inspector-General of Police secretariat ACP Datin Asmawati Ahmad said police were serious in combating all forms of wrongdoing by their personnel and would not hesitate taking action.

This was to uphold integrity and discipline among the men in blue.

“Stern action, in accordance with the law, will be taken against policemen guilty of committing such offences,” said Asmawati.

“We are awaiting the results of the second urine tests. If they come out positive again, they will be charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”

Asmawati assured the public that those found guilty will be punished accordingly.

“For Perak police to come out in the open shows how serious we are in upholding our integrity. The raids are an ongoing process to weed out personnel involved in criminal activities,” she said.

The 14 policemen were undergoing an enhancing and integrity course at the Ulu Kenas camp which opened last Sunday. They were among 87 personnel involved in the camp.

Perak police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said random urine tests taken from the participants found traces of drugs in them. However, no drugs were found on them.

“The urine samples were sent for further testing at the hospital to confirm the drugs,” he said.

Acryl said the personnel were barred from attending the course, which is scheduled to end on Friday, and were sent back to their bases.

“Action will be taken once investigations are completed,” he said.

He said anti-narcotic officers carried out random checks on police personnel, including those attending courses.

Acryl ruled out the possibility that the drugs were brought in and shared among the personnel.

“It is not the case ... they had their own supply. We believe they consumed the drugs before coming to the camp. We view such incidents seriously,” he said.
