PETALING JAYA: A married couple has been sentenced to 14 days' jail by the Shah Alam magistrate's court after pleading guilty to using criminal force to deter a female Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) officer from carrying out her duty.
Lor Ka Hoo, 35, and his wife Tan Sit Fun, 30, admitted to using criminal force to prevent 23-year-old Nurul Ain Isa from discharging her duty at Bukit Rahman Putra, Sungai Buloh on Thursday.
The couple were charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate P. Sarulatha ordered the accused to pay a fine of RM3,000 each, in default seven days' jail.
The court also allowed a stay of execution pending an appeal and the couple were granted bail at RM2,000 each.
According to the charge, the accused had used criminal force against Nurul Ain when she was on duty, which carries a maximum two-year imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
In KUALA LUMPUR, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar issued a stern warning to anyone who tried to obstruct or prevent any public servant from performing their duties.
"We will take necessary action if anyone impedes a public servant – especially enforcement officers," he said in relation to the incident.
