I REFER to the report “PLUS warns motorists not to abuse emergency lanes” (Sunday Star, Sept 11).

I work in Putrajaya and travel to and from the office using the Maju Expressway.

On the return journey especially where the Maju Expressway meets the KL-Seremban Highway just before the turn-off to Petaling Jaya, many motorists drive on the emergency lane.

But it’s sad to say there is NO enforcement to ensure that motorists comply with traffic rules. Everyone will be driving in the respective lane until one “idiot” starts the trend by driving on the emergency lane, and then the convoy begins.

A CCTV camera should be installed on the overhead bridge just before the turn-off to enable the relevant authorities to summon these drivers to court. The fines for such offences should also be enhanced.

I hope the authorities will be serious in their enforcement and not just wait for some tragedy to occur before springing into action.
