KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has completed about two-thirds of 9,227 investigation papers (IPs) on its own personnel from July 2014 till last month.
Its Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Comm Datuk JalaÂluddin AbÂdÂul Rahman said the department had wrapped up investigations on at least 5,709 IPs while the rest were still under probe.
“We are now trying to clear our backlog as we need to be an example of an efficient unit.
“We can’t be correcting our men and making them meet a certain standard without us being an example ourselves in the police force.
“Half of the cases have already been brought to court,†he said in an interview yesterday.
“Out of these, we are investigating 1,968 senior officers between the ranks of inspectors and commissioners,†he said, adding that the others consisted of sub-inspectors, constables and auxiliary policemen.
To date, Comm Jalaluddin said 240 personnel had been suspended, of which 32 were senior officers and the rest were lower ranking policemen.
