FOUR HELD OVER MOLOTOV COCKTAIL ATTACK IN KUALA MUDA

ALOR STAR: Police arrested four men early today to facilitate investigations into a Molotov cocktail attack at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters on Saturday morning.

Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Al Athrash Wahid said the men were picked up between 1am and 3am this morning in Sungai Petani.

He said the arrests were made at Lorong Boria in Taman Ria Jaya, Jalan Bandar Mutiara in Bandar Mutiara and at Jalan Bakar Sampah.

He added that the men are aged between 26 and 41 years old.

“We also seized a motorcycle from one of the suspects. The men have been remanded until July 26,” he said in a statement today.

Mior Farid said the men are being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

The offence is punishable by up to two years’ jail or a fine or both.

In the 3.30am incident Saturday, two men hurled a Molotov cocktail near the Kuala Muda district police headquarters entrance, in an apparent retaliation to the police force's ongoing crackdown on triads in Kedah.

A policeman manning guard house spotted two men outside the police headquarters and tried to approach them. However, the men jumped onto a motorcycle and sped off.

While fleeing, one of the men hurled a Molotov cocktail towards the entrance, causing a fire which left burnt marks on the entrance wall.

The duo left behind a banner bearing the number 04 and the Nazi, in an apparent warning to halt the ongoing crackdown against the underworld.
