PETALING JAYA: Police headquarters at Bukit Aman will investigate the recent spate of deaths in police custody, says Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

"The Home Ministry takes these deaths in police custody seriously and will ensure it is thoroughly investigated," he told The Star Online.

Three detainees have died in police custody recently.

On Jan 18, detainee Soh Kai Chiok was found dead at the Bera police headquarters.

ordering his release after his remand was denied.

On Feb 25, M. Thanaseelan was found dead in his cell at the Bukit Sentosa lock up. A post-mortem showed that he died from blood poisoning due to a perforated ulcer.

The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) said on Feb 9 that it had formed a task force under the provisions of Section 17 of the EAIC Act 2009 to investigate the death of Bala Murugan.
