PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister is pleased that the objection by the police against the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) has been resolved.
“I am grateful that this has been resolved.
"Congratulations to the National Governance Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) and the new Inspector -General of the Police Datuk Seri Hamid Bador, who discussed and explained to representatives of police associations on this issue.
“The IPCMC is important to restore the police’s image in the eyes of the people,†said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad after chairing the special cabinet committee on anti-corruption meeting here on Tuesday (May 14).
“Those who do not commit any wrongdoing, I believe they have nothing to worry about,†he said.
The IPCMC looks set to be a reality following positive discussions between the police and the GIACC.
A technical meeting is expected to be held in a weeks time to finalise a cabinet paper.
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said that the IPCMC could be set up by the end of the year.
The IPCMC is a police oversight body that investigate police misconduct. Recently retired IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun had prior to this said the police were against the move to set up the IPCMC.
