Grenades bullets and firearm magazines spook air cond technician

GEORGE TOWN: Police discovered three grenades, 76 live bullets and four magazines in a black bag hidden under an air-conditioning compressor at a shop that was once used as a hair salon in Bukit Jambul last night.

Northeast district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridaltrash Wahid said the black bag was placed under the compressor when the 65-year-old technician discovered it.

"He went to service the air-conditioning unit around 9pm when he found a black bag hidden under the compressor and immediately lodged a report at Sungai Nibong police station.

“In the bag, police found three hand grenades, 76 bullets measuring 5.56mm used for M16 rifle and four magazines.

"It is believed that the premises on the first floor of the building was used as a hair salon but was left vacant the past few months,” he told reporters.

Mior said investigations were still ongoing under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1972.
