PUTRAJAYA - The Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission (Integrity Commission) has set up a task force to investigate the death of two detainees in police lock-ups last month.
The commission's secretary and chief executive officer, Nor Afizah Hanum Mokhtar said at its members' meeting on May 28, the commission made a decision to investigate the death of detainee N. Dharmendran, 32, in the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters lock-up on May 21 and that of another, R. Jamesh Ramesh, 40, in the Penang state police headquarters lock-up on May 26.
She said the task force comprising five to eight officers led by Integrity Commission chairman Datuk Heliliah Mohd Yusof would hold its first meeting on this June 11.
"We want our investigation to be completed as soon as possible...within two weeks if possible. We are more interested in justice.
"The result will be made public," she said at a press conference, here, Wednesday. Nor Afizah said the Integrity Commission was prepared to cooperate with all parties including the police, to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
"Our investigation will look into everything. We will leave no stone unturned," she said, adding that the task force would also be calling forensic experts if needed.
Asked about a policeman being charged in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court today for allegedly killing Dharmendran, Nor Afizah assured that the commission's probe would not overlap the court's work.
"It will not affect our investigation. We will work in tandem and complement the system," katanya.
