KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Police's (Bukit Aman) Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) has set up 24 special squads nationwide to monitor and inspect illegal gambling outlets that have been raided but resume operations, said JIPS director Datuk Zubaidah Md Ismail.

She said added that JIPS had also received complaints and information about a few of its officers and men abetting gambling syndicates but investigations needed to be conducted to verify the authenticity of the information.

"The results of the monitoring and inspections carried out by these special teams will be compiled in reports.

"These reports will be submitted to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and he will decide on the form of action against the state police chiefs, district or even station personnel concerned for failing control illegal gambling in their areas," she told reporters at Bukit Aman here, today.

However, police officers and personnel should not be worried about the move by JIPS as it was aimed at cleaning up the name of police from allegations of being linked to illegal gambling, said Zubaidah.

She said since January to October, JIPS had received 57 complaints and 13 tip-offs on illegal gambling activities throughout the country.
