KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic offenders paid off 123,193 in summonses during the Op Warta Khas held throughout the country from June 16 to 27.
During the Op Warta held from June 4 to 15, only 63,933 summonses were settled by traffic offenders.
Bukit Aman federal traffic police Chief, SAC Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff said the number of summonses settled showed a positive development with an increase of 93 per cent
He said during the operation, police detained 16,486 individuals at roadblocks by conducting checks on individuals.
“The Inspector-General of Police announced at the end of Op Selamat 4, held during the Chinese New Year festival period, that there were 1.9 million warrants of arrest issued but to date, 1.7 million of them have still not been settled,†he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman, here, today.
“From February until the Op Warta Khas ended on June 27, only about 250,000 warrants of arrest were settled. We (police) will continue with the operation for as long as the remaining arrest warrants are effective.â€
Meanwhile, he said, during the same period, 4,026 summonses were issued on vehicle owners for using registration number plates which were not according to specifications.
“Based on police records, Selangor has the highest number of still unsettled arrest warrants at 441,000, followed by Kuala Lumpur (261,000), Penang (215,000), Perak (146,000), Negeri Sembilan (113,000) and Johor (108,000),†he said.
In this regard, he advised the public who still had arrest warrants on them to settle their summonses because records of traffic offences would still be in the police system.
Op Warta Khas was aimed at detecting traffic offenders who refused to settle their summonses even though they had been issued arrest warrants.
