PETALING JAYA: Following the tragic death of Chin Khoon Sing, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has moved to seal 43 tower cranes for allegedly flouting various safety and maintenance measures.
According to the Star Online, 16 of the cranes sealed were in Kuala Lumpur, 17 in Selangor, eight in Johor and two in Penang.
This was part of the department’s crackdown which came after 24-year-old Chin was killed when a sheave hook from a crane at a construction site fell onto her vehicle in Jalan Raja Chulan last month.
The English daily reported that 56 tower cranes had been inspected in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor and Penang as of the third day of the department’s crackdown.
The department said 15 tower crane operators, or drivers, – six in Kuala Lumpur, four in Selangor and five in Johor – were found to have been operating without their certificate of competence.
Yesterday, the department sealed one of the two tower cranes at a construction site in Kuala Lumpur, after it was found with loose bolts that were supposed to secure the hook.
According to state DOSH director Zailee Dollah, the contractor had been directed to secure the bolts and submit a report on the incident.
