PUTRAJAYA: The joint investigation into the alleged abuse of Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) detainees by authorities is “halfway throughâ€, said the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC). Its chairman Datuk Yaacob Md Sam said the investigations – conducted with the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) – are still ongoing and the EAIC hopes it will be wrapped up by September. “The joint investigation with Suhakam on the allegations that some Sosma detainees have been abused in detention is ongoing and is halfway through. “The EAIC formed an investigation team to collaborate with Suhakam, and we have had several meetings to coordinate the investigations. “On our part, we look into whether the authorities have adhered to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for detainees. Suhakam looks into the human rights aspects of it. “We hope the investigation can be completed by September,†said Yaacob, after opening the EAIC’s new complaints and customer service counter at Menara Usahawan here.
