KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad has assured that every week, a person involved in corrupt practices will be charged in court, depending on the Attorney-General's prerogative.

"I will make sure someone is charged in court and throw the book at them every week. MACC has been consistent on this.

"I do not care who is being charged. I want to put the fear in those involved in corrupt practices," said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief during a dialogue with the Umno Overseas Students Bureau in conjunction with the Millennials Empowerment Summit 2017 on Monday.

Dzulkifli also said that it was worrying that in a survey conducted by MACC, 18% of 1,000 university students polled said that they would accept bribes if offered.

Taking the cue from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, he said he would instruct his officers to investigate the bribe-givers in the private sector and bring them to court.

"I will look into the Deputy Prime Minister's suggestion and if any person is proven to be involved in such practices, we will throw the book at them," he said.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said that investigations should be done across the board, and not just on the public sector.

“Where there are takers, there must be givers. In most cases, the takers end up getting arrested while the givers get off scot-free. This is unfair,” he said.
