KUALA PILAH, June 15 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (MDTCC) has launched a special operation, codenamed "Ops Titik" to further intensify efforts to curb abuse of subsidised diesel nationwide. Its minister, Datuk Seri Hasan Malek, said the operation, launched last May 15, focused not only on individuals, but also companies and hotspot areas. "The ministry has taken various measures to curb abuse of subsidised diesel, with the latest move, the cancelling of licences for bunkering and wholesale of petrol and diesel at private jetties. "Not only that, we are improving existing provisions in the law, like the Control of Supplies Act, which is being amended to provide for a stuffer penalty on errant traders," he added. He told this to reporters after opening the Negeri Sembilan branch of the Association of Retired Officers in the Malaysian Education Service here Sunday. Hasan said since Ops Titik was launched, it had recorded 151 cases, involving seizure worth RM8.057 million. Yesterday alone, he said there were two cases reported in Selangor, involving seizure worth RM116,006, adding that eight cases were reported the previous day (Friday). The cases reported on Friday, involving seizure worth RM186,560, comprised four in Kelantan, two in Negeri Sembilan and one each in Sabah and Sarawak. He said since the operation was held, Johor recorded the highest number of cases, totalling six cases and seizure worth RM2.166 million, followed by Putrajaya with six cases, involving seizure worth RM1.592 million.
